Times Long Past - A Reflection

“Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?”

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, slowly passing from 2025 into 2026, we pause to remember. We remember not only the passing of time, but all that this year has held for us — its challenges, its blessings, and the quiet faith that has carried us through.

This past year has not been without its uncertainties. We continue our search for a new vicar, and at times the task has felt long and the path never-ending. Yet even in the waiting, we are reminded that we do not walk alone. The Lord has been with us every step of the way.

We give thanks for the steadfast work of our PCC, our Church Warden, and the dedication of our wonderful team of ALMs. Their faithfulness, commitment, and service have been a true blessing to our church family, and we are deeply grateful for all they do.

The words of Psalm 77:11 remind us:
“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.”

This year has also brought loss. We have said goodbye to friends who were close to our hearts. Our church family feels smaller, and their absence is deeply felt. Yet the love, joy, and faith they shared with us remain treasured memories — woven into the life of our church and held forever in our hearts.

As we reflect, let us not forget the wonderful work of the Lord here on Sheppey. His presence has been constant, even in times of sorrow and uncertainty. His faithfulness endures from generation to generation.

As we enter a new year, may we continue to trust in God’s guidance. May we walk forward together in hope, knowing that the Lord goes before us, walks beside us, and holds us always in His care. Amen.

With Love and Prayer,
Ashley
